Seeing is believing

Intuition, what a powerfully silent voice. We've all had those moments where intuition graces us with an idea. Either we listen and enjoy whatever unexpected blessing or protection was due or we ignore it and miss out. It's a beautiful moment when we recognize (to our benefit) that we've heeded the call of intuition. I had a beautiful intuition-filled experience on Sunday, walking the dogs.

My sister and I have a pair of amazing dogs whom we absolutely adore.Rhiley is a Weimeraner and what a magnificent boy - as vocal as he is beautiful. Keegan the Dalmatian is all too aware of how captivatingly cute she is and will tease people with a greeting but shy away just at the moment they stretch out to touch her elegant spotted coat. They are big dogs and they make a big impact on our lives as we spend more on their groceries than our own, care more about their exercise régime, watch their comfort levels and generally do everything we can to make them feel loved.

One of the best ways to show a dog you love them is:

to exercise them and to make the event fun and free. Coming from Johannesburg, they were city dogs who walked tight street corners with loud traffic. We'd get them over to the park on the weekend but a few trees and a stretch of land are not much to compare against the almighty Indian Ocean and the golden beaches in Port Elizabeth. This Sunday was an even more spectacular day than we could have imagined and it is thanks to Intuition that I was privileged to capture the moment.

My sister and I had already taken the dogs on an epic beach walk on Friday so they weren't due for a long walk on Sunday. I wanted to show my sister some quaint little towns here in the Eastern Cape on a Sunday drive,  so we elected to tire the dogs out with another beach walk so they would simply rest in the afternoon whilst we were away on our adventures.

At the last moment I decided to take my camera even though we had agreed on a power walk. I have an expensive SLR and a zoom lens that are not typically carried off on beach walks but my intuition was telling me to take the camera.

The dogs had a fantastic run and swim in the sea and we happened on a really unusual sight a few Km's down the beach: a magnificent sea-lion just basking in the sun.

We apprached cautiously and the sea-lion held his ground. The dogs were curious and he seemed calm.

We didn't dare to infringe on his space so I was glad of my zoom lens and the fact that the dogs didn't interfere too much with him.

What a privilege to be a part of a magnificent encounter between domestic and wild animals. A moment not too many people have experienced: a wild sea-lion on a fairly populated beach. I had been enjoying taking photos of the digs and their beach antics but actually the camera had become a burden and I was mildly resentful to be carrying it when I was supposed to be powering across sand and sea.

The gentle awareness of intuition obeyed was instant relief and I was so grateful to see the sea-lion and to verify through my lens that he wasn't injured but rather just enjoying the moment too.
